There’s a chalk drawing on the sidewalk with the words “Jack” and “Dad” scrawled on it. In the backyard is a swimming pool where we wait, ignorant that only few feet away, Toto drummer, Jeff Porcaro, died of a heart attack at 38. The subject of this interview, Mark Hoppus and his band, Blink 182, have never faced such tragedy. Nor have they worn rock’s other dirty laundry.

With son Jack in his arms and appropriately pretty wife, Skye, at his side, Hoppus enters our field of vision, walks over and introduces himself.

There are no bloodshot eyes, no deviated septum, no burnt fingers, no broken teeth, no needle marks. Aside from Hoppus’ six o’clock rooster hair and his bookend tattoos: the name Jack on the left wrist, Skye on the other, the Hoppus family could be here to remake Andy of Mayberry.

No detox, no failed relationships, no skeletons, no closet. So what in the world are we gonna talk about? Well, darkness isn’t the only interesting topic, as it turns out....

Blink 182 guitarist/singer Thomas DeLonge teamed up with Taking Back Sunday for the whirlwind filming of the video for This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know) on Wednesday, October 26th.

DeLonge's debut as a video director came with more than the usual challenges, as Taking Back Sunday flew in for less than 24 hours, midway through their North American tour. With time of the essence, DeLonge kicked into action, presented a meticulous layout of each shot - his concept included plenty of energetic live performance combined with some memorable imagery - a combination of split screen and live shots.

Bassist Matt Rubano commented, "The enthusiasm that Tom brought to this video was amazing. He was able to execute every bit of his treatment in such a great way. He was totally involved and most importantly he kept it fun for us the whole time. Having made so many videos himself, he really knew what he wanted. Tom is also a really fun, positive person to be around."

BAND FORCED TO CANCEL TOUR OF JAPAN, AUSTRALIA AND HAWAII

U.S. TOUR TO PROCEED AS SCHEDULED

Santa Monica, California, March 15, 2004 - blink-182 drummer Travis Barker injured his right foot on March 12th while on tour in Australia -- an injury that resulted in the cancellation of the remainder of the tour. With the band in the midst of a world tour promoting their new untitled Geffen album, and preparing to play that night in Adelaide, Australia, Travis fell. After seeking medical attention, doctors put a cast on his foot. Travis then reversed his drum kit and played the show that night, however, the band was forced to return home Saturday.

Said Travis, "I am seriously bummed that we couldn't play for our fans in Australia, Japan and Hawaii. It was just a freak accident. But it'll heal and we'll be back." To that end, Travis will be meeting with specialists today.
Blink-182's untitled platinum-certified album shipped last November, and features the singles "Feeling This" and "I Miss You." With their latest CD on target to be another multi-million-selling smash, the band kicks off their solo headline U.S. tour in late April. Their co-headlining tour with No Doubt begins in Indianapolis on June 1, and wraps up in San Bernardino at the Hyundai Pavilion June 26.

Santa Monica, California, February 3, 2004 – Two of the most popular and hard working bands in music today, blink-182 and No Doubt, will join forces for a once in a lifetime summer tour. Both bands released new records at the end of 2003 and have enjoyed consistent chart success into 2004. The tour will kick off in Indianapolis on June 1sst and finish in Southern California in San Bernardino at the Hyundai Pavilion on June 26th. Blink-182 and No Doubt will hand pick artists to appear on various side stages. Main stage support has yet to be determined.

"This is a great opportunity to see two bands from Southern California that have history spanning over a decade. We're honored to be sharing a stage with them again like we did 10 years ago." Says blink-182 singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge

No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal said, "It's been a while since we've been on the road, so we're really excited to go out again and celebrate the release of our singles collection. I know we will have a great time with the Blink guys."

Look for the video to be completed mid to late January. Sacramento, CA – Blink 182 headlined KWOD’s Twisted X-Mas last night at the Arco Arena. More than 10,000 screaming fans packed the home of the Sacramento Kings to see the show which featured other current alternative rock favorites like Hoobstank, Die Trying, the Ataris, and the Used. Prior to the show, radio winners were given the chance to say hello to the performing bands in a special meet-n-greet. As soon as Tom, Mark and Travis entered the room, the room filled with excitement. The guys signed everything for everyone, took pictures and still had time to read some letters given to them from fans.

Tom, Mark and Travis hit the stage at 9:05 pm and opened the set with “What’s My Age Again,” immediately followed by the new hit “Feeling This.” Other songs in the set: “Reckless Abandon,” “First Date,” “Rock Show,” and “Stay Together,” from Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, “Dumpweed,” and “All The Small Things,” from Enema of the State, as well as songs from the new album like “Violence,” “Go,” “Easy Target,” and “Down.” The guys closed the set with the song with the track from 1997’s Dude Ranch “Dammit.”

From Modern Drummer: After a brief photo shoot at a Hollywood recording studio, Travis Barker is off to lunch. In his brand-new, jet-black, V12-powered BMW sedan, he rides shotgun and fiddles with the stereo. Swapping discs in the changer, Barker finally lands on something he’s into. It’s Everlast’s latest disc, and the drummer lands on a couple of tracks in particular that strike him enough to begin humming along. He then turns around and asks, "Do you like this album?"
With the exception of the cranked stereo, the ride to the Japanese restaurant is largely a silent one. Piloting the car is Travis’s drum tech, Daniel Jensen, who also happens to be part owner of Orange County Drums And Percussion. Throughout the day, Jensen appears to act as more than Barker’s tech; he’s his business partner, confidant, and friend. And he’s intimately familiar with Barker’s drumkit...

To support the new untitled album, blink-182 presents the “DollaBill Tour” featuring: blink-182, Bubba Sparxxx and The Kinison. This all-ages club tour marks the band’s first return to small venues in several years.

On Oct. 23 the $1 tickets go on-sale exclusively at MTV.com. With the small venue sizes, tickets will sell out in a matter of minutes, though a percentage of seats have been held for each show. On Oct. 25, additional tickets will go on sale, without Ticketmaster charges, at local ticket outlets. These ticket locations will be announced at MTV.com.

Explains singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge, “For years we played in small clubs and that’s where you can really connect with your fans. We’re super stoked that we’re at the point in our career that we can bring a tour like this around for only a dollar.”

The band’s fifth, full-length, studio record will be released on Nov. 18th and represents a quantum leap in the band’s development. Explains singer/bassist Mark Hoppus, “Having over nine months to record this CD, gave us a chance to explore avenues that we never have before.” He continues, “We weren’t rushed, so the ideas on this record are fully fleshed out and go in directions that sometimes even surprised us.”

No, not as inmates. That was their teenage years (Tom DeLonge when he was 18, Travis Barker 15, to be specific). The older, more mature Blink-182 were only behind bars for the sake of work. The punk trio shot their latest clip, for the new single "Feeling This," at the abandoned Lincoln Heights Jail north of downtown Los Angeles.

"The idea is that it's a very institutionalized school," singer/bassist Mark Hoppus explained on the set. "It's kind of a combination of prep school and reform school, and it's very repressed and kids are being held down. There is a lot of authority and a lot of strict regiment, and the kids lash out and take over the school and destroy the place."

The MCA band will be switching on a live web cam in the studio where blink-182 is currently recording a new album, and will make available still-cam, live broadcasts, and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage 24 hours a day. Blink-182's web cam allows fans to watch in real time the making of the new album right from the beginning. The camera will move around the San Diego studio space as blink-182 works with longtime producer Jerry Finn.

Look for the red "ON AIR" sign, because that’s when it’s all happening live. Fans are encouraged to check back often since no one knows in advance when the web cam lens will be switched on. The website also posts video clips of the days events, and fans will be able to ask the band questions as the album progresses, as well as offer feedback on the site's comment boards.

Don't worry though... if you get MTV2, you'll be able to see it LIVE! The awards show starts at 2PM EST/11AM PST. If you miss it though, it'll be re-broadcast on November 12th. If you don't get MTV2 well, the MTV site says they'll have a web-cam there, so maybe you can catch them on there or something like that... I can't promise anything but it's worth a look.

The Mark, Tom and Travis show proved to be a return to normalcy of sorts for 18,000-plus young fans, because it was probably their first real opportunity to escape the constant bombardment of tragic images on television.

Well my friends, here’s some good news for you…I was at the studio today where Mark & Tom were doing there thing and guess what? I’ve got the skinny on the names for all their songs. You wanna know what they are? Well, I’ll tell ya, but you’re going to have to wait till tomorrow morning for the complete list.

While at the studio this afternoon Mark was working on the song, SHUT UP. I can’t wait till it’s finished. From what I heard, it sounds awesome.

As promised, here's the deal: A few days ago BLINK had their TAKE OFF YOUR PANTS AND JACKET photo shoot. I was there and here's the scoop:

9:00AM - Call time at the studio (studio will remain nameless)! 9:45AM - Tom arrives carrying a suitcase full of clothes.
10:00AM - Mark arrives with wife, Skye.
10:15AM - Travis arrives with girlfriend Melissa.

While waiting for the crew to set up, Mark told a funny story about a group of girls that came by his house late one evening to take pictures and perhaps catch a quick glimpse. Little did they realize, they went to his neighbor's house instead. The girls were all giggly thinking they had done something super cool, yet the house, which they thought was Mark's, was really his neighbor. Idiots!

Back to the photo shoot - the set was constructed to look like a dressing room where the guys had the opportunity to stand in front of a photographer and slap on different kinds of clothing. From bright red baggy pants to tight jean jackets to masks to spandex, it was a sight to be seen to say the least. Imagine Mark wearing only a tie and his boxers or Tom in an acid wash jacket or Travis... Well, you'll just have to stay tuned for the exclusive video that'll soon be on the site to see that. Gotta go!!
